More recently, in 2016, during the Art Paris Art Fair, the president of the French Republic warmly praised Karl for his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture, One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais. Karl’s artistic path began at age 7 with collages, sparked by his encounter with sculptor César Baldaccini. He then approached tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro, remaining passionate about collage. Artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with collages. In 2003 Karl prepared his first show in Paris, which led to his first solo exhibition in 2006 at the Isy Brachot gallery in Brussels. In 2008 he returned to Paris with a show that combined paintings, sculptures and video elements inside the Espace Pierre Cardin. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse was commissioned to create a new trophy, inspired by a symbolic Deauville icon: the drawing of the barriers that separate the cabanas on the Planches.
