KARL-FRED DAHMEN (1917–1981) Untitled Oil on canvas, signed at the bottom near the center. Dimensions: 50 x 110 cm. (Original canvas, in good condition). Born in Stolberg, near Aachen, Karl-Fred Dahmen was one of the leading figures of German Informel art. Beginning in 1951, his frequent stays in Paris allowed him to forge close ties with artists of the New School of Paris, notably Louis Nallard and Maria Manton, with whom he became friends. A co-founder of the Neue Aachener Gruppe in 1952, he participated in Documenta II in Kassel in 1959 and began teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1967.
