Jules CLARÉTIE (Limoges, Haute-Vienne, 1840–1913) Columnist, novelist, playwright, administrator, member of the Académie Fr. – 6 letters and 2 business cards: Autograph letter signed as General Administrator of the COMÉDIE FRANÇAISE (printed letterhead), to Mr. Aimé GIRON (envelope), November 12, 1893: “I have recommended your play… and I will read *Louis le Mare* myself, after the rehearsals for *Antigone*, which are literally taking up all my time...” 1 p. in-8° + autograph letter signed, June 19, 1897. He thanks Félix FAURE, President of the Republic, for his invitation. Dated July 1 + Autograph letter of June 30, 1918, on Comédie Française letterhead. “Dear Poet. Yet another delightful memory has reached me from your picturesque and alluring Syria. I dream of its scents, and you send them to me in the form of delightful rhymes, in which I take great joy in finding my name as if set in some jewel of the East...” 1 page, in-8° + Letter from A. S. as General Administrator of the COMÉDIE FRANÇAISE (printed letterhead) - 1 large in-8° page - to Georges REBUSSAT in Nîmes (envelope) - May 29 (1908): “Dear Sir and distant friend. Thank you for your cordial and comforting letters. I don’t need a kick in the pants, but I do need affection. And the story of the subscriptions to the “grimaces” rounds out the character. As for your brother, the plays must be presented by a third party. You may send me the minister’s letter written by you. I will endorse it...” + 2 handwritten letters and 2 business cards: “Jules Clarétie of the Académie Française, General Administrator of the Comédie Française.”
