Original Amsterdam Stained Glass Window – Early 20th Century – Jugendstil / Geometric Design Original Dutch stained-glass window originating from a 1912 residential property on Bestevâerstraat in Amsterdam. The window is a fine example of the stylistic transition taking place in Amsterdam during the early 20th century. Decorative Jugendstil influences were gradually becoming more restrained and geometric – a development that preceded the characteristic Dutch architectural styles of the 1910s and 1920s. This transition is clearly visible in the design. The window has a strong geometric leadwork pattern, combined with a central circular medallion featuring four stylised green leaves or petals. The use of amber, yellow and green textured glass provides warm colour accents while retaining a light and balanced appearance. The simplified floral motif is particularly characteristic of the period: natural forms were no longer depicted in the flowing manner of earlier Jugendstil, but increasingly reduced to clean, geometric shapes. When illuminated by daylight, the amber glass develops a warm golden colour and the green central motif becomes particularly vivid.
