Johnny Friedlaender (1912-1992) - Ohne Titel

Johnny Friedlaender (1912–1992), France/Germany Title: Unknown Technique: Original color aquatint with etching on wove paper Dating: Probably 1950s–1960s Edition: 52/153 Signature and numbering: Bottom right hand-signed in pencil by hand, “Friedlaender”. Bottom left in pencil, numbered “52/153”. Dimensions: Sheet ca. 37.5 × 41.5 cm. Framed behind glass. Description: Original print by the significant Deutsch-Französischer artist Johnny Friedlaender (1912–1992), one of the most important renewers of modern color aquatint in the 20th century. The work shows an abstract composition characteristic of Friedlaender, with fine linear structures, aquatint fields and calligraphic elements. The print comes from a numbered edition of 153 copies and bears the artist’s handwritten pencil signature. Notably, the sheet is preserved with its full original margins. It is not a trimmed impression and not presented behind a mat. The visible margins belong entirely to the original sheet and show the original plate impression of the print. Paper: Watermarked wove paper (exact brand unknown). Provenance: From private possession. Further details about origin are not available. Documentation: No certificate of authenticity. The work is hand-signed and numbered. Condition: Good age-appropriate condition. Mild age-related paper yellowing and minor signs of wear. The sheet shows no noticeable damage. The frame shows age-related wear and is included with no guarantee regarding its condition. Note: The title, exact year of creation, and catalog reference could not be determined conclusively to date. The work is a typical example of Friedlaender’s abstract relief printing from the postwar period.
