Style and artistic characteristics: Pijoan's style is defined by a loose, impastoed brushstroke with great expressive force, a direct heir to the Catalan masters of realism and early 20th-century post-impressionism. His main characteristics are: • Treatment of light: Mastery of chiaroscuro and light contrasts. He is able to render the radiant sun of the Mediterranean sharply against the façades, creating long shadows that add volume and intrigue to the scene. • Atmosphere and color: Use of a warm palette dominated by ocher, earth tones, sands and tiles, perfectly balanced with the vibrant blues of the sky and subtle touches of vivid color (such as reds or greens) in the figures' clothing. • Environmental figuration: His characters do not seek anatomical detail; they are sketched with accurate patches of color that convey movement, dynamism, and a sense of latent life in plazas, street markets, and busy streets.
