Jikharra 001 - HED achondrite meteorite; eucrite-melt breccia

Museum piece, Eucrite Jikharr[a] 001, Libya (2022) — a slice measuring 13.5 cm and 109.7 g. The specimen of this lot is a complete, large slice of a eucrite found in Libya in 2022 and officially cataloged as Jikharr[a] 001. It presents an attractive breccia texture and corresponds to a recrystallized eucrite. Its clasts are composed of calcium-rich plagioclase and aggregates of fine-plagioclase crystals. HED meteorites — Howardites, Eucrites, and Diogenites — originate from the asteroid Vesta. They are rocky, differentiated meteorites, i.e., achondrites. The slice has been cut with a diamond wire to obtain a broad surface with reduced weight. At 13.5 cm and 109.7 g, it is an exceptionally large specimen to add to a collection.
