Original edition of this work by Jérôme and Jean Tharaud devoted to an episode of the Paris Commune. The work is illustrated with fifteen compositions by Daniel Vierge, engraved by Eugène Froment. These detailed illustrations reproduce the streets of Paris, the crowd movements, and the dramatic events of the Commune. This copy has a particularly interesting bibliophile provenance. It bears the printed inscription: « Exemplaire de présent imprimé pour Monsieur Pierre Dauze » This inscription is accompanied by an autograph inscription: « Amicalement, E. Pelletan » Pierre Dauze, a pseudonym of Paul-Louis Dreyfus-Bing, was an important bibliophile, bibliographer and French journalist. He was notably the founder of bibliophilic societies and the Revue biblio-iconographique. This provenance, together with the signed dedication from the art publisher Édouard Pelletan, distinctly distinguishes this copy from the ordinary issue.
