HISTORY of the Model: Daniel JeanRichard (1665–1741) is celebrated as the founding father of the Swiss watchmaking industry in the Neuchâtel Mountains. In 1681, he established one of the region's first independent workshops in Le Locle, where he championed the établissage system—a decentralized manufacturing method that transformed isolated farming communities into a global watchmaking powerhouse. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] The history of Daniel JeanRichard blends rich historical facts with local folklore. His legacy is defined by several milestones: [1] • The Legend of the English Watch: According to local tradition, JeanRichard's watchmaking career began in 1679 when a horse dealer brought a broken English watch to his village. Tasked with repairing it, the 15-year-old Daniel successfully fixed the watch and used the mechanism as inspiration to build his own timepiece from scratc After the JeanRichard family’s initial business closed, the rights to the name lay dormant for decades. [1, 2] • Revival by Girard-Perregaux: In the late 1980s, Luigi Macaluso of the Sowind Group (which owns the luxury watchmaker Girard-Perregaux) acquired the brand and revived it as a tribute to the pioneer's legacy.
