Edward Beck (1803–1861) was a central figure in Victorian horticulture, known for his skill both as a cultivator and as founder and first director of The Florist and Garden Miscellany in 1848. James Andrews (1801–1876) was one of the most important and award-winning English botanical painters and illustrators of the nineteenth century, renowned for the incredible realism and chromatic mastery of his works.
