Jade - Natural Jadeite Jade (Type A) — Carved Goldfish...

A substantial and deeply carved round jadeite pendant, worked in high relief across a thick, generous body. The natural jadeite (Feicui) shows a delicate combination of soft lavender-purple and light green — the prized "spring colour" (春帶彩) pairing — the two tones drifting through the stone in gentle, cloud-like transitions. The material has a smooth, waxy translucency that lifts the soft colours and lends real depth to the sculpted surface. The carving is intricate and full, covering the entire face of the disc in bold three-dimensional relief. A pair of goldfish are carved to the left and right, their bodies and flowing fins sweeping through curling ribbons of water, with a lotus leaf unfurling across the top of the composition and finely combed striations suggesting rippling water below. The whole design circles around the centre in a lively, swirling movement. At over 11 mm thick, this is a weighty, tactile piece with genuine sculptural presence in the hand. Goldfish and lotus together form one of the most beloved auspicious pairings in Chinese tradition. The word for fish (魚 / yú) is a homophone for abundance and surplus (餘), while the goldfish (金魚 / jīnyú) echoes "gold in abundance" (金玉) — a long-standing emblem of wealth and prosperity. The lotus (蓮 / lián) sounds like "continuous" (連), extending the wish to unbroken, year-after-year abundance, and is also revered as a symbol of purity for the way it rises unstained from the water. Certified by the NGTC (National Gemstone Testing Centre) as natural Grade/Type A jadeite, the jade has undergone no impregnation, dyeing, or treatment of any kind — the colour and structure are entirely as nature formed them, with the characteristic fibrous interlocking texture that defines fine jade under magnification. Jadeite has been treasured for centuries across Asia as a stone of protection and harmony, and lavender jade in particular is prized for its rarity and its gentle, serene colour. A carved piece of this size and richness carries that heritage with real presence — a true centrepiece. Catawiki accepts NGTC certification as a standard for jadeite, and the certificate for this piece can be verified directly through the official NGTC e-link below.
