Jacky Zegers - Zegers - Sculpture, ***Lizzy*** - 22.5 cm - Polystone, Resin

This sculpture is a work by the artist Jacky Zegers. It is part of a highly recognizable series in which she stages anthropomorphic characters (often children with animal heads) in a style that is at once poetic, a touch melancholic, and very pared‑down. • Subject: A small character with a fox head (or cat, depending on interpretation) dressed in a raincoat and rain boots. The absence of facial features is the artist's signature, leaving room for imagination and pure emotion. We observe a beautiful contrast between the smooth brown/black patina of the body and the textured green patina of the clothing, which gives this worn, raincoat‑like appearance that has stood the test of time. Height: 22.5 cm Diameter: 10 x 7.5 cm Jacky Zegers (1972) lives and works in Arnhem (NL). She is mainly active in sculpture and painting. A mathematics teacher, she gradually realized that her life could no longer be reduced to formulas and numbers. In 2006 she decided to listen to the voice of her heart and become an artist. Self‑taught, she draws her inspiration from nature. The symmetry and the motifs she discovers there hold a privileged place in her work. She cannot hide her love for light colors and exaggerated shapes. Her work radiates optimism, and that is exactly what she aims for. She would like the public to pause for a few moments and simply enjoy the moment. She seeks to draw attention to the beauty and carefreeness of life’s things—the life is meant to be enjoyed, to love and to savor. Of other humans and of animals. And this is evident in her art, which shows us and makes us feel, with a wink, how beautiful life is. Beautiful finish and meticulous details.
