Jackson, Tennessee. Union Bank of Tennessee. 1862 $4. PCGS Currency Fine 15. No. 214. Plate A. Another enigmatic item from the likes of Tennessee dating to the 1860s. This note features the faint signature of B.F. Bond at right who took unissued notes from the Jackson-based branch of the Union Bank of Tennessee and pressed them into circulation amidst the economic deficiencies of the period. His process involved applying a crude title via pen which in turn made these notes obligations of the Mobile & Ohio Railroad. The penned title and signatures on this piece are largely faded, but this denomination is certainly a rare prospect judging by the lack of available auction records. PCGS Currency comments "Minor Rust Stains and Damage; Small Internal Tears Near Top Center." Estimate: $500 - $700. Provenance: From the Caine Collection.
