J.L Bonnet (XIX) - Portrait de femme

J. L. Bonnet – Large Portrait of a Lady – Oil on Canvas – 19th Century – 130 × 104 cm An imposing oil on canvas signed J. L. Bonnet in the lower left, depicting the portrait of an elegant seated lady. The subject is shown in a richly worked black dress, adorned with white lace. She wears several pieces of jewelry, notably earrings, a brooch, and a long necklace. She holds a bouquet of flowers delicately. The treatment of the face, the fabrics, the lace, and the jewelry is characteristic of bourgeois and academic portraiture of the second half of the 19th century. The canvas is presented in an imposing old gilded frame, richly molded and ornamented, which gives a remarkable presence to the whole. Artist: J. L. Bonnet – signature visible on the work, the artist remaining to be precisely documented Era estimated: second half of the 19th century Technique: oil on canvas Style: academic / realistic – bourgeois portrait Probable origin: European school, probably French Dimensions with frame: about 130 × 104 cm Condition An antique work showing signs of time, craquelure, marks and wear visible in the photographs. The gilded frame also shows wear, scuffs and small defects related to its age. No attempt has been made to hide these imperfections. The detailed photographs are an integral part of the description and allow precise appreciation of the conservation state. A very large antique signed portrait, particularly decorative due to its 130 × 104 cm format and its sizeable gilded frame.
