Here is a magnificent and rare lot of 3 Kokeshi. The first is a magnificent and authentic Sōsaku Kokeshi, turned wood, crafted by the famous and highly awarded master craftsman Sadao Kishi (1930-1998). This model is titled Izu No Odoriko - The Dancer of Izu. It's a major cultural reference in Japan: the title of a masterpiece of Japanese literature published in 1926 by Yasunari Kawabata (Nobel Prize in Literature 1968). This Kokeshi by the artist Sadao Kishi reinterprets this emblematic character, depicted with his large traditional straw hat (sugegasa) worn on the chest and his floral kimono. The artist's signature appears under the base. Dimensions: H 25 x D 7 cm The second is a charming Sosaku from Karuizawa, titled Sato no Ko - "Child of the Village" and created by Tamura Chie; one of the most appreciated figures in the world of contemporary creative kokeshi. Dimensions: H 14 x D 8 cm The last is a work by Sadao Kishi dated on its base 1972. This Kokeshi is a slender model in solid wood with botanical engravings on the body, and its expressive face is crowned with the traditional cut. Its size makes a strong impression and enlivens any type of interior. Dimensions: H 38.5 x D 10 cm Kokeshi are now genuine collectors’ pieces. Please refer to the photos for more details.
