Italy - Rome // Roman Forum; Giovanni Battista Falda (Valduggia

A perspective, lively view of the façade of the Basilica of Saint Francesca Romana (formerly Santa Maria Nuova) and of the related Olivetan monastery in Campo Vaccino (Forum Romanum) In the lower left part of the sheet there is an engraved three-item numbered legend identifying the surrounding archaeological monuments: • 1. Ruins of the Temple of Peace: This refers to the monumental remains of the Basilica of Maxentius. • 2. Amphitheatre or Colosseum: Visible in the background, behind the Romanesque church’s bell tower. • 3. Arch of Titus: An architectural perspective placed on the right. Editorial Signature (Bottom right) • Inscription: "Per Gio. Iacomo Rossi in Roma alla Pace co. Priv. del S. Pont." Indicates that the De’ Rossi workshop held the papal privilege of printing for the protection of copyright of the era. The specimen is in excellent condition.
