Italy, rare - Advertising, Editorial - Florence - Postcard (3) - 1920-1930

Vintage advertising postcards from the historic publishing house Vallecchi Editore of Florence, dating from the 1920s and 1930s (the Fascist Twenty Years period). They are part of a promotional series titled "Per il libro italiano", characterized by illustrations in the graphic woodcut style typical of the era and by educational or patriotic mottos. Here is the detail of the three subjects depicted: • On the left (Red): It bears the motto "Bastano pochi libri purché bene scelti". The illustration shows two owls (symbols of wisdom) perched on a monumental lectern surrounded by books. • At the top right (Green/Cyan): It bears the motto "Il libro è la parola della patria che raggiunge i figli lontani". The image shows books open, flying like flocks of birds over the waves of the sea, a clear metaphor of Italian culture sent to emigrants abroad. • At the bottom right (Black): It bears the motto "Il libro è un amico fedele per tutta la vita". It shows a traveler or pilgrim walking along a road lined with milestones, reading a book. Historical context and characteristics These items were printed both as collectible postcards and as advertising inserts to promote reading and the diffusion of language and national culture. The typographic style uses the Roman lapidary characters typical of fascist propaganda, in which the letter "U" is replaced by "V".
