Italy - Emilia-Romagna// Ferrara; Johannes Janssonius (1588–1664)

• Territory represented: The central core is formed by the Ferrara area (Duchy of Ferrara), but the geographical extent encompasses strategic neighboring areas: the Polesine of Rovigo, the Mantuan, the Bolognese, and portions of Romagna. • Morphology and Hydrography: Great emphasis is given to the complex water network of the Po Plain. The clearly prominent features are the intricate Delta of the Po and the vast lagoon area of the Valli di Comacchio. • Orientation: Unconventional (West at the top). The cardinal points indicated on the margins show the Occident (West) at the top, the Oriens (East) at the bottom, the Septentrio (North) to the right, and the Meridies (South) to the left. The sheet presents itself intact and clean, free of tears, holes, or damp stains. The central fold shows only a physiological and normal wear of time, while the original watercolor coloring is vivid and perfectly preserved.
