ITALIAN SCHOOL – 19th CENTURY; oil on oak panel, School of Raphael portrait of Madonna, infant Christ and Joseph, 30.5 x 23cm, in elaborate carved giltwood and gesso Florentine frame, overall 75 x 64cm. th, Provenance: Adam Partridge, 19/05/2016 Lot 371. Condition Report, Condition Report, The painted surface is lightly grubby and would benefit from a clean. There is a blemish / darker patch just above the head of Joseph, there may have been a small chip to the paint here which was attended to some time ago. There is also a repair to the surface at the shoulder of the Virgin. Craquelure to the paint throughout. Many small chips and nicks to all edges of the panel. A slight surface mark by the eye of the instant Christ. The Florentine frame has been broken into many places and repaired at different times in its history. Some small losses to the frame, some odd wood worm holes. Five blistered, chipped areas to the inner frame. The 'School of Raphael' panel may not be original to the frame.
