Interesting and sharp period Risorgimento-era letter sent from Genoa to Livorno on 6 November 1851. Treats of Tyrrhenian sea mail carried outside the normal state monopoly by a private steamship/boat. Features and Imprints on the Front: Red line stamp: GENOVA / Corso particolare (clear imprint). Red oval stamp: V.P.M. (Via Particolare Marittima), affixed to certify routing by sea. Addressee: Direct to the famous firm "Corrado Pate e figli - Livorno". Taxation: Era accounting markings in ink indicating the port/tax collected on arrival. Features and Imprints on the Back: Arrival stamp: Black circle of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany LIVORNO / 6 NOV 1851 in perfect legibility. Condition: Very good. Complete folded letter from the period, paper well preserved with natural folds and minimal signs of aging. Red stamps and arrival imprints particularly crisp and well struck.
