Ottoman Islamic Silver Ring with Green Glass Intaglio – 17th to 19th Century AD An Ottoman Islamic silver finger ring set with a large oval green glass intaglio engraved with a stylized quadruped, probably a deer or antelope. The substantial raised bezel is surrounded by finely engraved vegetal and scrolling ornament, while similar decorative motifs continue along the shoulders and hoop, reflecting the rich ornamental vocabulary of later Ottoman jewellery. The translucent green glass provides a striking contrast with the aged silver mount, which preserves extensive surface wear, oxidation and deposits consistent with prolonged use and considerable age. Comparable Ottoman rings employ closely related animal imagery and engraved green glass intaglios.
