Inkwell - Bronze

Up for auction: a fascinating and refined decorative art object from the 19th century. It is a tripod inkstand finely cast in bronze, distinguished by a splendid gilded finish and a complex sculptural craftsmanship. The central structure features a fluted cup adorned on the rim with repoussé foliate motifs finely chiseled. The cup is magnificently supported by three imposing anthropomorphic supports configured as winged caryatids (or chimaera) that terminate in elegant leonine clawed feet, a sculptural detail typical of historicist styles of the nineteenth century. The object presents an overall good condition. It shows an attractive and genuine patina and partial abrasions or surface oxidations on the gilding that attest to the piece’s authenticity and age. Please carefully view the photographic gallery for the aesthetic details.
