and its silver lining. The oval-shaped base, with a scalloped rim, is decorated along the edge with fillets, the ends adorned with clasp motifs. The circular body, with pinched ribs, rests on four clasp-shaped feet; the handles are decorated with foliage motifs. The lid is topped with a coiled handle ending in an acanthus leaf. The bowl, base and lid are engraved with the crest of the House of Paulet/Powlett, Marquess of Winchester (“a falcon rising, ducally gorged and belled”), beneath a marquess’s crown. The reverse is marked GARRARD 5 Panton Street LONDON. United Kingdom, London, 1828. Silversmith: Robert GARRARD II. Height: 32 cm – Width: 46 cm – Depth: 36.5 cm. Total weight: 5,940 g.
