Icon - Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker - Tempera on panel...

Great Russian icon of the 19th century, with in the center Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, flanked above by Christ and the Virgin Mary, that attest to his episcopal dignity. On the sides, as intimate protectors of the family, watch over the figures of the Guardian Angel, on the left, and Saint Macarius of Unža, on the right, a great ascetic of the Russian woods. The ancient inscriptions in Church Slavonic reveal their names, while the patina of the painting tells a centuries-old history of devotion and protection. The panel presents a deep vertical crack along its entire height. The rear crossbars help stabilize the panel, but the crack remains evident. There are also losses of material, painting gaps and signs of time, as documented in the photographs. An authentic icon that, with its virtues and its faults, tells centuries of history and devotion. Dimensions 35.5x31x4 cm. Adequate packaging and fast shipping.
