Beautiful and somewhat rare Hornby R1058 Live Steam – Flying Scotsman, dating from 2005, in OO scale (1:76). This set reproduces the famous British locomotive Flying Scotsman No. 4472, of the LNER Class A3, in its magnificent green livery with its tender bearing the LNER inscription. A true "Live Steam" system The specialty of this model is its Hornby Live Steam system. Unlike a traditional miniature electric locomotive, this version is designed to operate with genuine miniature steam, produced on board the locomotive. It is therefore a particularly interesting model in Hornby’s history and sought after by enthusiasts of British railway modelling. Contents of the lot The lot presented includes notably: - Flying Scotsman locomotive No. 4472; - matching LNER tender; - Hornby Live Steam specific controller with voltmeter; - transformer/power supply; - cables and connections; - Hornby OO track components; - filling accessories with syringes; - Live Steam-specific oil; - protective gloves; - original documentation; - CD / multilingual operator manual; - original inner polystyrene spacers; - inner box; - large outer Hornby Live Steam – Steam Powered – 00 Gauge box. A “37/05” marking is visible on the inner spacer, consistent with production/packaging in 2005. Condition The locomotive and its tender present a very good visual appearance. The green livery is well preserved and the inscriptions Flying Scotsman, 4472 and LNER remain perfectly legible. The wheels, connecting rods and numerous mechanical details give this locomotive a very strong presence. The accessories and control equipment are stored in their original compartments. The outer box shows normal signs of storage and use, including a few scuffs and marks on the corners and edges. The inner spacers may also show age- and storage-related marks. These elements are visible in the photographs and should be considered part of the overall condition of the lot. Operation The Live Steam system has not been recently tested. The lot is therefore offered as unchecked, with no warranty regarding its mechanical operation or its steam generation system. Given the particular nature of this Live Steam locomotive, it is recommended that the future owner consult the Hornby documentation before attempting to operate it again.
