Hookah Basics - Brass - India - Mughal Dynasty – III (1627 - 1857)

Rare Antique North Indian Brass Hookah Base – Mughal Style, 19th Century Description: Offered a stunning museum-quality antique brass water pipe base (huqqa/hookah base) in the classic bell shape. This authentic piece of Islamic and Asian metalwork is handmade in North India (Lahore region / Mughal Empire) and dates from the 18th century or early 19th century. The base is fabulously decorated with very fine, hand-engraved craftsmanship. The body features geometric, star-shaped cutouts and patterns, while the underside is richly adorned with traditional floral motifs and scrolling. The bottom showcases the authentic, rough hand-hammered character of old casting. Over the years the object has developed a gorgeous deep, dark patina, especially around the neck and collar opening. This is a solid, heavy cast object (made using the lost-wax casting method) and absolutely not a thin, modern tourist reproduction. A magnificent collector’s piece for lovers of Oriental antiquities and antique metalwork. Specifications: • Material: Heavy, thick-walled cast brass • Height: 16.5 cm • Bottom diameter: 16.5 cm (perfect, stable symmetrical proportion) • Spout/collar diameter: 8 cm • Weight: 1265 g (solid, authentic weight) • Origin: North India (Mughal / British India) • Period: 19th century • Condition: Excellent antique condition with a beautiful original patina. No major dents or cracks in the engraving.
