'Duress' note, so-called because the serial number seen on this example was issued during World War II, when employees of HSBC were forced to issue notes by the Japanese, and the notes were thus issued under duress. Historically significant and quite scarce, this example stands up well, without any problems whatsoever. Chief Accountant signature G. Lyon-Mackenzie, who started his first Far East post at Hankow and worked at the Hong Kong branch from 1933. He became the sub-agent of the Kowloon branch in 1939. Estimate: $1,500 - $2,000. Provenance: From the William J. Pardee Collection. 1934年香港上海匯豐銀行伍拾圓。迫簽票。 迫簽票，如此稱之，皆因見於此鈔的編號，乃第二次世界大戰期間，香港上海匯豐銀行的職員在日本脅迫下所發行，故為脅迫之下所出，此鈔歷史意義重大且頗為稀少。此鈔歷史意義重大且頗為稀少，本品品相良好，未見瑕疵。由總會計師G. Lyon-Mackenzie簽名，他其首任遠東職位於漢口，1933年調職香港，1939年任九龍支行副經理。
