Holck (Hans)

Holck (Hans). The Royal Danish Realm's and Principality's State and Trade Mirror for the year 1780. Copenhagen, Address Office, 1780. Suivi de : Alphabetisk Titulatur-Bog, eller Rang-Lexicon over Kongelige Danske Adels- og Rangs-Personer. Copenhagen, Johann Rudolph Thiele, 1781. Second improved edition. Two works bound together in one volume, 506 and 232 pages, besides unpaginated preliminaries. Dark brown half-leather corners of the period, boards of marbled paper, smooth spine divided by gold strips, dark title-piece, red edges. Printed in Gothic type, with wood-engraved headbands and ornaments. Interesting gathering of two complementary repertories devoted to the Danish monarchy at the end of the eighteenth century. The first presents the court, civil and military administrations, financial, university and commercial institutions, as well as the towns and domains of the Crown territories. The second lists alphabetically the nobles and office-holders, with their functions and residences; it includes the rules of precedence and the honorific formulas peculiar to the different classes. Documentary source for the administrative, social and commercial history of Denmark, of Norway and of Danish possessions, notably the Antilles: presence of an entry concerning a captain stationed on Sainte-Croix. Ancient ink inscriptions on the first title page. Binding rubbed, covers' paper epidermized, corners and heads worn, spine cracked with a few small holes; paper slightly browned, stains and foxing scattered.
