Heuer Carrera Chronograph stainless steel gentleman's wristwatch, reference no. 2447S, serial no. 104xxx, silvered 'T Swiss' dial with applied baton markers, seconds and minute markers, triple subsidiary dials for constant seconds, thirty minute and twelve hour recording and chronograph centre seconds, Heuer crown, Valjoux cal. 72 17 jewel movement signed Heuer-Leonidas SA, case signed Heuer Leonidas SA, modern brown leather strap, 36mm - ** Private provenance - The watch was owned by the vendor's father, Tony Nash. A popular British rally co-driver in the 1960s and early 1970s, he spent his first years as a co-driver in the late 1950s. Tony built up a partnership with Northern Irish driver Paddy Hopkirk, winner of the 1964 Rallye de Monte-Carlo. In addition to co-driving, Tony Nash was also a marathon driver and placed second overall in the first edition of London - Sydney Marathon, in 1968, with Paddy Hopkirk. In 1969 Tony Nash and Paddy Hopkirk took part in several rallies in a Triumph 2.5 Pi. In 1970 with Paddy Hopkirk and Neville Johnston, Tony Nash finished fourth overall in the 1970 World Cup Rally London - Mexico City, the 16,000-mile race from Wembley Stadium in London to the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City, in a Triumph 2500 PI MkII. The photograph, kindly provided by the vendors family, was taken at the start of the 1970 World Cup Rally and shows Tony Nash to the centre wearing the watch, with Paddy Hopkirk to his right (the photograph is a digital copy only for illustration purposes and is not part of the lot)
