The scarf bears the title "L'Instruction du Roy" (full: L'Instruction du Roy en l'exercice de monter à cheval). The iconic design was first released in 1993 and is inspired by a historic 17th-century manual on horsemanship, written by Antoine de Pluvinel, the tutor of the French king Louis XIII. The pattern braids together intricate horse bits, reins, and baroque ornaments in a graceful weave. This particular version has a deep blue and red base with gold-yellow and white accents. It is also woven on a beautiful jacquard silk, recognizable by the subtle, woven-in patterns in the background fabric (such as the bee or French fleur-de-lis motifs), making this vintage edition especially beloved among collectors.
