Hermann Fischer-Roloff (1917-1988) - Sächsische Schweiz

Hermann Fischer-Roloff – “Saxon Switzerland” – Mixed media on cardboard, in original glass frame This atmospheric landscape painting shows the impressive rock landscape of Saxon Switzerland in a calm, clear, and nature-attuned depiction. Hermann Fischer-Roloff combines precise natural observation with a reduced, essence-centered form language that is characteristic of his figurative works of the postwar period. The painting was executed in mixed media—presumably tempera combined with additional layers of color—and features a matte, finely nuanced surface. The composition appears balanced and conveys a quiet, meditative atmosphere. Framing & Condition The work is presented in a high-quality, period-typical frame that is color- and stylistically exceptionally well matched to the painting. The frame underscores the tranquil, nature-connected mood of the depiction. Notably, the original glazing has protected the delicate mixed technique for decades, resulting in an exceptionally good state of preservation for the painting. Both the painting and the frame show only minimal signs of aging, which significantly increases the work's appeal. Dimensions With frame: approx. 53.5 × 43.5 × 2.5 cm Without frame (in the mat): approx. 38 × 26 cm Stylistic Classification Realism / classical landscape painting Mixed media on cardboard Postwar art / Mid-Century Reduced, clear form language Artist Biography Hermann Fischer-Roloff (1917–1988) was a German painter and graphic artist and counts among the leading representatives of the Hanover School.
