Herman Miller La Fonda Armchair – Charles & Ray Eames A distinctive design classic: the La Fonda Armchair, designed by the legendary design duo Charles & Ray Eames and produced by Herman Miller. This characteristic armchair is part of the La Fonda series, which was designed in 1961 for the La Fonda del Sol restaurant in the Time-Life Building in New York. The interior of the restaurant was designed by Alexander Girard, who approached the Eameses for the design of special furniture. The La Fonda Armchair is distinguished by its low, rounded shell and the characteristic aluminum base. The shape of the chair is based on the well-known Eames fiberglass chairs, but was adapted to the specific requirements of the original interior. The combination of the organically shaped seat, the integrated armrests and the distinctive aluminum base gives the chair a pronounced yet balanced appearance. The construction remains visible and forms an important part of the design.
