This extremely precise instrument was produced in 1942 under an official military contract for the pilots and navigators of the U.S. Army Air Corps (the then United States Air Force). The watch served at the time for vital astronavigation aboard Allied bombers and transport aircraft. The back of the original 'Base Metal' case features the fully correct and sharp military engravings: • AN 5740 (Military standard specification) • MFR'S PART NO. 4992B (Model number) • SERIAL NO. AC 42-3841 ('AC' stands for Air Corps, produced in 1942) • CONTRACT NO. W535 ac-28072 • HAMILTON WATCH CO. Features & Condition: • Dial: Original, deep-black 24-hour dial with the three characteristic white hands.
