H. Hooijkaas - Chest - Wood, Silverplated, Felt - Small silver-plated plaque

A remarkable, hard wooden (jewelry) box with a plaque depicting a medieval scene of drinking merriment. The heavily silver-plated plaque is marked with: maker's mark and HH90. Inside and bottom are lined with green felt. (AI indicates it may be palissander wood, but I am not a connoisseur at this point.) The stamp HH90 means that the object is not made of solid silver, but silver-plated. It is the official silver-plated hallmark of the well-known Dutch silver factory H. Hooijkaas from Schoonhoven. This means the stamp exactly: • HH: This stands for the initials of the silversmith H. Hooijkaas. This family business produced, in addition to solid silverware, a lot of high-quality silver-plated cutlery and luxury items • 90: This number indicates the thickness of the silver plating. The base of the object is made from a non-precious metal (often copper, brass or alpacca), over which a layer of pure silver is applied. The standard '90' means that 90 grams of pure silver were used for a standard surface. This is considered excellent, durable quality. Very decorative and suitable for many purposes.
