Gustave de Breanski (c.1856-1898) - Paisaje marino

Gustave de Breansky (United Kingdom, c. 1856–1898) General Description Extraordinary Victorian-era marine painting, executed in oil on canvas by the renowned British marine painter Gustave de Breansky. The scene captures an intense and dynamic coastal composition: a full-sail fishing schooner navigates the surf near a wooden pier, on which several figures stand watching the maneuver against the vastness of the sea. The work stands out for its formidable treatment of the coastal atmosphere, characterized by leaden, overcast skies, subdued light, and a choppy sea with lively foam, depicted with great pictorial realism. Belonging to one of the most prominent families of landscape and marine painters in 19th-century British art, the piece displays the technical solidity, drama, and chromatic veracity that cemented Breansky as a reference in maritime painting. The painting is signed in the lower right corner by the artist, bears a reverse mark, and has an impeccable documented provenance, having been acquired at auction on December 28, 2004 at the famous Durán Auction House in Madrid. The original auction sheet with the winning bid price is attached.
