Guitare manouche Bucolo – Luthier italien à Paris -...

Rare and authentic Bucolo gypsy jazz guitar, made in Paris in the 1950s by the Italian luthier Bucolo, belonging to that generation of Italian artisans settled in France who contributed to the golden age of Parisian gypsy guitar. The instrument has the particularity of being presented in a configuration remarkably authentic and original. The luthier’s internal label is still present and visible through the soundhole, constituting an important element for identifying the instrument. This guitar possesses a very beautiful aesthetic typical of gypsy luthiers of that period: cutaway body, warm amber-colored top, large oval soundhole surrounded by multiple concentric purfling, fingerboard with dot inlays, wooden bridge and metal tailpiece. The internal construction features three back braces. The tuners are period-correct, as is the tailpiece, and they fully contribute to the character and authenticity of this guitar. The instrument shows a very beautiful natural patina acquired over decades. The top, back, sides, neck and headstock bear various marks, scratches and signs of use typical for a guitar aged about 70 years. These marks are clearly visible in the photographs and testify to its history. Despite its age, the whole is very well preserved and has a lot of charm. The headstock also bears the old marking: ARGENCE – PLACE D’ARMES – TOULON The guitar is currently strung with its six strings and is pleasant to play. It offers very good sound quality, with the character sought in an old gypsy jazz guitar: a lively, direct and expressive sound, suitable for both accompaniment and melodic playing. Beyond its musical qualities, this is a instrument of particular interest for collectors of antique gypsy guitars and Franco-Italian lutherie from the mid-20th century, especially thanks to the preservation of many period elements. Main features: * Luthier: Bucolo * Made in: Paris, France * Era: 1950s * Type: gypsy jazz / acoustic jazz guitar * Cutaway body * Oval soundhole * Original luthier label present inside * Internal construction with three braces * Period tuners * Period tailpiece * Instrument preserved in a very authentic configuration * Beautiful natural patina and numerous use marks consistent with age * Very good sound * Instrument pleasant to play This Bucolo guitar is a fine testament to the Parisian gypsy lutherie of the 1950s. An old instrument that has preserved its character, patina and its main period elements, while today remaining a true musical instrument and a collectible piece. Condition: good to very good overall given its age. Presence of scratches, marks, and varnish wear related to long use, especially on the top and back. The photographs are an integral part of the description and allow precise appreciation of the instrument’s aesthetic condition. To note: the guitar was formerly equipped with a pickup near the soundhole. After its removal, the three small mounting holes were properly filled. This former intervention is visible in the photos and does not affect the sound or playing comfort of the instrument.
