Tutte le aste / Altro / Grandjean-Jourdan à Vallauris - Vase - Ceramic - wood-look ceramic

A vintage ceramic vase produced by the Grandjean-Jourdan workshop in Vallauris. It is characterized by its textured brown 'faux wood' décor on the lower part, surmounted by a flared white section adorned with a hand-painted black silhouette depicting a profile or a stylized figure. The Grandjean-Jourdan workshop in Vallauris is emblematic of the golden age of French ceramics in the 1950s-1960s. Founded by Sébastien Grandjean and later developed by his son Eugène, the workshop marked the history of the pottery town with its unique know-how The invention of the 'faux wood': This decor, perfectly imitating the veins and knots of olive wood, was born by pure chance in the workshop, when a decorator tried to smudge his brushstrokes with a piece of cotton. Having become the absolute signature of the manufacturer, this trompe-l'œil was produced in numerous variations (vases, jugs, catch-alls). The black silhouettes (the Masson Decor): The hand-painted profile on the glazed white part is the work of the workshop's head decorator, Émile Masson. To create these series, he drew inspiration from his Vallauris muse, the famous Sylvette (Sylvette David, who was also the model and muse of Pablo Picasso in the same town in 1954). Dimensions: height = 15 cm; width = 12 cm; thickness = 6.5 cm; weight = 300 g Condition: see photos
