A turning point in his career occurred in the 1980s when he met Remo Brindisi, a prominent figure of the new Italian figurative movement. This meeting provided crucial influence, fueling Fortunato’s artistic drive and allowing him to develop a unique style, distinct from traditional figurative approaches. Towards the end of the 1980s, he created the IMAGES movement together with other Abruzzese artists. In 2013 he founded the Fortunato Foundation, dedicated to promoting, archiving, and sharing his artistic legacy. The Foundation also engages in cultural activities, promoting diverse artistic perspectives. A notable Foundation exhibition was held at Arte Pordenone in 2013, showcasing the Fortunato series "Colate," characterized by vivid enamels on expansive surfaces. Fortunato’s artistic career has been marked by his exploration of deep, non-superficial emotions. He achieved early success in Italy and expanded his reach to the United Kingdom in 2014 and Germany.
