Gennaro Franzese - Sculpture, Giovane Pescatore con Nassa - 27 cm - Bronze

Splendid and Rare Bronze Sculpture – "Young Fisherman with a Net" – Signed Gennaro Franzese – Naples, Italy In the auction, an intriguing and refined bronze sculpture in burnished bronze depicting a young fisherman (scugnizzo) seated on a rock. The boy is portrayed with a bare torso, in a moment of quiet, while he holds a slender fishing rod; beside him rests a detailed net (or fishing basket). The work rests on an elegant octagonal base in precious green veined marble. The sculpture bears the inscription carved into the rock "Gennaro Franzese". The piece was created in Italy, precisely in Naples, the historic capital of the great culture that founded and shaped bronze sculpture. The signature ties this work to the important sculptural tradition of the Franzese family in Naples, historically active in the Campania region since the 18th century with renowned craft workshops and sculptors (such as the famous progenitor Gennaro Franzese documented between 1718 and 1757, master to great artists such as Paolo Saverio di Zinno). The members of this artistic family have transmitted the secrets of plastic modeling through generations. From the end of the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, with the birth of Neapolitan Verismo inspired by the works of Vincenzo Gemito and Giovanni De Martino, Neapolitan sculpture focused on the realistic representation of the children of the people. This bronze, descending from the Franzese family, fully draws on that cultural climate, translating it into a fusion of great technical grace and expressive quality. Unlike the more serial and common models circulating on the market, this specific subject stands out for a remarkable compositional rarity: the relaxed pose of the boy, the harmony of proportions, and the meticulous rendering of the rock and the net/basket details, making this specimen an unusual piece and difficult to find on the antique market. For its uniqueness, execution quality, and the historical-artistic importance of the Franzese name in Naples, it is a real collector’s piece, destined to enhance private art collections and interiors of prestige. Material: Burnished bronze of excellent quality on a green marble base. • Author / Signature: Gennaro Franzese (signature carved on the rock 800/900). Style: Verismo / Neapolitan School. • Subject: Young fisherman / Marine theme / Scugnizzo. Origin: Naples, Italy. • Dimensions: 22 x 18 x H 27 cm. • Weight: Over 5 kg (solid and superbly crafted object). The condition of the work is more than good. The bronze presents a beautiful original, warm patina. Only insignificant and normal signs of time and age on the surface and the marble base are noted, which do not affect its aesthetics at all but attest to its authenticity and history (refer to the attached photo gallery, which forms an integral part of the description). Due to the marble’s delicacy and the bronze’s substantial weight (over 5 kg), the item will be handled with the utmost care: specific high-resilience materials (bubble wrap and more) will be used to guarantee full protection of the lot during shipping. The shipment will be entrusted exclusively to well-known international express couriers (such as DHL, UPS, FedEx, etc.). A real-time tracking code will be provided as soon as the shipment departs to monitor every stage of the transport. The lot will travel with total insurance coverage included in the shipping cost, protecting the buyer.
