Gebetsbuchmeister - Imago Editore - Offiziolo di Papa...

Offiziolo of Pope Lambertini — Ms. 1140 University Library of Bologna Copy number: 97 FC - Application of gold leaf - Hand-sewn on cords - Mounted on antique paper - Leather binding with heated gold engravings The codex belonged to Pope Benedict XIV, whose name before his election to the pontificate was Prospero Lambertini. Created within the Flemish miniature tradition between the late fifteenth century and the early sixteenth century, it represents a refined example of the tradition of the Book of Hours. The miniatures are distinguished by the naturalism of the figures and the attention to the perspective of the architectural backgrounds. Rich floral friezes accompany the text, while the initial calendar presents scenes of the months dedicated to agricultural work and to medieval daily life. Its provenance from Benedict XIV’s library adds historical interest to a work in which private devotion, observation of nature, and Flemish figurative culture meet. Copy complete with case and commentary Published by Imago - The nobility of the facsimile
