Hand-carved wooden statue of a standing Gautama Buddha in a serene and meditative posture. Its specific slender proportions and the way the robe is carved are inspired by the historical Northern Wei or early Tang style from China, blended with influences from Gandhara art. Features of this statue: The robe (Sanghati): The mantle fully covers both shoulders and falls in heavy, consecutive U-shaped folds straight down along the body. This emphasizes the vertical, column-like form of the wood carving. The mudra (hand gesture): The hands are gently brought together in front of the abdomen (with the left hand subtly holding the folds of the robe). This radiates deep inner calm, contemplation and introspection. Face and Ushnisha: The face has a calm, downward gaze with elongated earlobes. The hair is composed of small, stylized curls that extend into the characteristic spiritual knot (ushnisha) atop the head. The Base: The wooden figure is mounted on a separately turned, black-painted round wooden pedestal, contributing to its stately appearance weight 770 grams H 47 cm W 12 cm D 12 cm The statue is carved from a lighter tropical hardwood. Given the fine, somewhat fuzzy grain and the even, matte brown color, it is most likely Albizia wood (often used for decorative Asian woodcarving) or a lighter variant of Suar wood (Samanea saman). The wood has subsequently been finished with a dark brown stain or wax layer to give it the warm, antique appearance.
