Gaston Hauchecorne - Sculpture

Gaston Hauchecorne (1880–1945) – Chinese figure with a fan – Art Deco terracotta sculpture signed, France, circa 1925–1935 Fascinating patinated terracotta sculpture, signed at the base by Gaston Hauchecorne (1880–1945), a French artist especially appreciated for his refined Orientalist representations during the Art Deco period. The work depicts an elderly Chinese gentleman comfortably seated, with his head gently inclined, a smiling face and a fan in his hands. A composition rich in personality, in which the artist succeeds in conveying serenity, irony and an extraordinary natural expressive quality. Active in the first half of the twentieth century, Hauchecorne distinguished himself for his sculptures devoted to the culture and figures of the Far East, creating works in terracotta and bronze today present on the international collectibles market. Particularly successful is the modeling of the face, with wrinkles, half-closed eyes and a barely hinted smile, which attest to the artistic sensibility and the sculptor’s ability to give life and character to the material. The sculpture preserves a pleasant terracotta-colored patina and is characterized by a clearly visible incised signature on the base. The back features the typical hollow ceramic workmanship. An interesting example of French Art Deco figurative sculpture, ideal for collectors of Orientalist works and perfect as a decorative element for libraries, professional offices and refined interiors, both classical and contemporary. Dimensions: height 18 cm, width 18 cm, depth 15 cm. Photographs are an integral part of the description.
