Ehringhaus, Chapel Hill, North Carolina Gamal Refaat Lamei is a painter and educator born in Cairo, Egypt. He studied art and art education, earning a PhD from Helwan University in 1982, where he later served as Professor of Painting and Drawing and Chair of the Art Expression Department. Lamei has exhibited extensively throughout Egypt, Europe, Asia, and the United States, including exhibitions in Paris, New York, Copenhagen, and Tokyo. In 1998, he received the International Heritage Prize from Naruta University in Japan. His work is represented in numerous public and private collections, including the Egyptian Museum of Modern Art in Cairo, the White House in Washington, D.C., and the Contemporary Art Museum in Berlin.
