Fritz A. Wagner – Art of Indonesia (Edition 1988) - Dayak...

Wanted and scarce reference work on the Indonesian archipelago This lot concerns the rare and sought-after 1988 edition of the standard work Art of Indonesia by Fritz A. Wagner, published by Graham Brash (Singapore). Since its original publication, this in-depth study has been known as one of the most authoritative texts on the textile, mask, and sculpture art of the Indonesian islands. This particular copy features the iconic, colorful cover with a traditional tribal mask and is richly illustrated with rare imagery. This book scientifically and visually aligns perfectly with the top pieces from the well-known Marcia & John Friede Collection. It forms an indispensable complement and cross-reference to ethnographic standard works such as: Beyond the Java Sea: Art of Indonesia's Outer Islands – Paul Michael Taylor & Lorraine V. Aragon (Abrams) Arts of the South Seas – (Prestel) This copy forms a perfect unit with other high-quality ethnographic publications in this auction. Bidders are advised to also view the other lots in this auction for a unique opportunity to build a specialized library in one go. Absolute 'Collectors Grade' This copy is in neat, unused mint condition. Due to its age (38 years) and the worn cover, this edition is very sensitive to handling marks. However, this book has been virtually unopened. To optimally safeguard the spine and binding, the auction photos were taken with extreme care at a minimal opening angle of less than 100°. The work shows absolutely no creases, no internal discolorations, and no signs of use. In this auction several high-quality ethnographic publications will be offered, including Africa, Oceania, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. A unique opportunity for the construction or expansion of a specialized art-historical library. Shipping is tracked. For the purchase of multiple lots I apply a fair adjustment to the shipping costs, commensurate with total volume and insured value. Pickup is possible in The Hague, Benoordehout (2596GN).
