French School (XIX) - Scène de jardin femme aux enfants

Oil painting on a wooden panel depicting an intimate and melancholic scene in a garden at sunset. In the foreground, a woman wearing a long dark dress and a white bonnet is shown seated on a stone bench. She stands in the middle of a park on a wealthy property. In the background, two children play around an architectural element topped with a urn, likely one of the entrance pillars of the property; the scene opens to the distant landscape, a town whose church steeple can be seen in the distance illuminated by the setting sun. The work is signed in red paint at the bottom right of the painting, but it remains fairly illegible at this stage and begins with a K… and deserves further research. The painting features a beautiful pictorial texture, with dark tones and light touches in the foliage giving the whole a romantic and contemplative atmosphere under a setting sun. The work is presented in an important 19th-century gilded wooden frame, with broad moldings, decorative and particularly highlighting the work. Condition: very good, some craquelure in the paint layer given its age and not affecting the reading of the scene. Dimensions with frame: 56 cm high / 48 cm wide Panel painting alone: 32.5 cm high / 24 cm wide Work signed in red at the bottom right but poorly legible Technique: oil on wood panel Subject: garden scene / genre scene Era: 19th century Frame: large and old deeply molded gilded wooden frame (11.5 cm thick molding) particularly decorative. Signature: visible but not identifiable, starting with K….. This frame is provided at no additional cost so that, when the work arrives at your home and can be installed directly there, therefore no damage to the frame will be accepted as valid grounds to open a claim or request a cancellation, unless it affects the integrity of the work. Art, in its material nature, can present color nuances or textures that vary with lighting or the user’s screen configuration. It is also noted that the indicated dimensions may show slight physical variations related to the framing process or the original support.
