Freek van den Berg (1918-2000) - Zonnebloemen schilderen

Freek van den Berg - Fauvist - beautiful early artwork framed with a box frame. Size 140 x 160 cm. Johannes Fredericus (Freek) van den Berg (Amsterdam 1918 – Veessen 2000) was a Dutch painter. Freek van den Berg was mainly self-taught. He did, however, take some lessons from the artist Frits Giltay and received advice from Han van Dam. From 1954 to 1963 he also worked as an art critic for Het Parool, Het Vrije Volk and Vrij Nederland. In 1985 Van den Berg moved from Amsterdam to the Veluwe IJssel village Veessen. The direct view of the river and, especially, the sunrises influenced his work. His colors became lighter in tone, brighter, as if the sun had more opportunity to assert itself. He is often described as 'the last Dutch Fauvist.' But although Van den Berg’s work shows affinities with Fauvism, he also felt connected to French Impressionism and German Expressionism. Truly stunning, large and colorful work in very good condition and framed with a box frame. Please look closely at the photos. They have certainly not been retouched. Bottom left, hand-signed. This work comes from the family estate of Freek van den Berg. You will receive a free book by Freek van den Berg, “The Liberation of Color.” The painting must be picked up. You may also arrange delivery yourself with a transport company.
