Rarest original edition of this scholarly and literary compilation bringing together the Latin poetic works as well as François Vavasseur’s philological reflections, in a volume structured in two complementary parts devoted to poetry and to the analysis of language - The first part gathers Latin poems composed by Vavasseur at different periods of his life, previously published in a scattered manner, and brings them together into a coherent whole designed to highlight his talent as a Neo-Latin poet in the humanist tradition of the Society of Jesus - These poetic texts explore various religious, moral and literary themes, reflecting the author’s classical erudition as well as his concern to reconcile artistic expression with doctrinal rigor - The second part, entitled De vi et usu quorumdam verborum, constitutes a philological treatise in which Vavasseur analyzes the use, force and nuances of certain Latin words, focusing on their correct employment in literature and their stylistic value - François Vavasseur - Francisci Vavassoris e Soc.
