Fr. 69. 1878 $5 Legal Tender Note. PCGS Banknote Choice About Uncirculated 58.

Fr. 69. 1878 $5 Legal Tender Note. PCGS Banknote Choice About Uncirculated 58. A series seen only sparingly when compared to both the Series of 1880 and Series of 1907. The Series of 1878 was short-lived and replaced relatively soon after its introduction with the Series of 1880 and stands as the last series date to use the distinct pinkish-red Treasury overprint favored throughout much of the 1870s. Today less than 300 examples are recorded, but this piece readily offers a degree of technical sophistication that can be appreciated. From light handling that reflects the grade assigned to superb color that captures the aesthetic distinctiveness of 1870s Legal Tender Notes, this note is sure to please the collector who places the winning bid. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
