Fr. 1935-Js. 1976 $2 Federal Reserve Note. Kansas City. PMG Gem Uncirculated

A Remarkable $2 Federal Reserve Note Specimen Fr. 1935-Js. 1976 $2 Federal Reserve Note. Kansas City. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. Specimen. Even among modern Specimen printings it takes little to recognize that this is indeed a remarkable item that presents a rare opportunity to be had based on the lack of comparable records. In fact, most Specimens that sold in recent years represent denominations like the $5, $10, $20 and even the $100 while $2s and $50s prove comparatively difficult to obtain with offerings typically occurring years apart at best. Yet bidders have here the chance to contest a veritable grail among modern Specimen printings. Representative of the Series of 1976 and the Kansas City district, bidders would be remiss to overlook familiar counters emblazoned 2" and the engraved reproduction of John Trumbull's Declaration of Independence which had previously been used on the $100 National Bank Notes issued under the Original Series and Series of 1875 that unapologetically betray this item as a mockup of a $2 Federal Reserve Note issued under the Series of 1976 which were released to circulation for the first time on April 13, 1976. Likely made as a result of Treasury Secretary's decision in 1975 to reintroduce the denomination, one may note that "SPECIMEN" comes overprinted twice in bold red block letters on both sides of the design alongside an overprinted serial number that reads "J23456789A" and offers a particularly fine expression that echoes a popular fancy serial number format that should effortlessly command the attention of bidders long before this note even crosses the auction block. PMG Pop 1/None Finer. Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000. Click here for certification details from PMG.
