Blue and White Porcelain Dish (Ko-sometsuke Type) China, late Ming dynasty, Wanli to Tianqi period (circa 1573–1627) A small blue and white porcelain dish from the late Ming dynasty, produced for the Japanese market and commonly referred to as Ko-sometsuke ware. The dish is decorated with a central floral motif set within a garden scene, painted in a lively and spontaneous manner characteristic of the Transitional period. The brushwork displays a free and expressive quality, reflecting the changing aesthetics of late Ming export porcelain. The underglaze cobalt blue varies from deep tones to softer washes on a slightly greyish-white body, typical of wares produced for export to Japan. Minor imperfections, including rim fritting, are consistent with this type of porcelain and contribute to its authentic character. The form is shallow with gently curved sides and a well-defined foot rim, Dimensions: W13,5 x H2,5 cm Condition: Very good condition! Minor rim frits typical of this type of ware, minor wear and scratches and kiln grit stuck to the footrim.
